If there was a need to be concerned with the strength (vigor) of your mind, body, and soul, it would be now. We are currently in the middle of a global pandemic that is rapidly intensifying in the U.S. and the rest of the world. Due to the coronavirus scare and COVID-19 complications, we are witnessing: (1) contagious infections and the untimely demise of thousands of people daily (2) overwhelming panic, (3) major city shut downs and (4) intense spending on food, toiletries, and nonperishables, but how many of us have actually stopped in our tracks to think logically about what we can do to protect ourselves?

The Next Step
There is repetition of the instructions to maintain social distancing, wash hands frequently, and avoid public locations, but not many sources are mentioning the importance of maintaining a resilient immune system. As a Nurse Practitioner running a busy walk-in care clinic within a 24-hour pharmacy, I am considered an ‘essential worker’. Therefore, I am required to continue reporting to work so I can guide, support and calm, presumptive virus infected clients so they can receive the help they need. I cannot fully participate in social distancing because I must interact with many individuals daily, so I quickly accepted the fact that there is only a matter of time before I am exposed to the novel coronavirus.
Despite my circumstances, I am not fearful. Why? I have big faith in the resiliency of my immune system and the healthy state of my mind and soul.
"A few years ago, I began taking interest in creating a healthy internal and external environment for myself by engaging in practices that encourage continuous healing. My practice has evolved over the years and includes the focus on complete mind, body, and soul homeostasis and optimal functionality. I strive to encourage everyone to do the same". - Mary G., founder of Rooted Vigor Health
Initially, I was very reluctant to voice any opinion or information surrounding this pandemic, but the realist within me could not let the people go without true guidance. With the overflow of misinformation on the internet and the people’s constant focus of energy on the negativity, I decided to create a guide to help the common people better navigate through wellness during these challenging times.
This is not a personal agenda to seek financial gain from selling a product, promote my latest program or even become ‘viral’ (no pun intended). I am simply striving to help my people and encourage tranquility in the current state of ongoing chaos.
I am sharing with you, not sound medical advice or information completely backed by the scientific community. Instead, I am sharing with you, information from logic and experience. I am recommending to you, what I also recommend to my loved ones and practice doing myself in order to maintain full body wellness. So far it is working for us, now I want to share this with you, with hope to help ease your mind, body, and soul.

SARS-COV-2 | COVID-19: Not Your Ordinary Viral Conditon
Before you navigate the guide, I would like to give you a brief overview on what makes this virus different from the flu or the common cold. First, I want to emphasize that not everyone reacts to this virus the same. Some individuals suffer from severe and debilitating illness, some have very mild symptoms, and other individuals have no symptoms at all. This may be due in fact of the bio individuality of everyone’s immune system, however, I believe that anyone with a strong enough immunity can fight this illness without complication. This information will serve as a guide to ensure that your system is indeed strong enough to fight and recover.
What Makes This Virus Different?
Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illnesses ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is the illness that is caused by a new strain (SARS-CoV-2) of the mutated coronavirus that was discovered in 2019 (World Health Organization, 2020).
In the presence of this mutated coronavirus, our immune system attacks it by sending fighter cells to contain the viral intruder and force it out. However, as the virus replicates, this simple fight turns into a full out brawl and causes havoc within the body. The body stimulates inflammation, dilates blood vessels and promotes secretion release, which leads to: a spiked fever (to burn it out), floods of mucosal secretions (to flush it out) and intense coughing (to force it out of the lungs). Although the immune system fights to contain it, the virus replicates rapidly. This encourages the immune process to become more exaggerated and the system grows tired causing a build of fluid that wont clear from the lungs, a cough that won’t go away and the increase of inflammation in other organs. This is the reason why it is important to ensure a resilient immune system -- to reduce the risk of an exaggerated immune response and enhance the body’s ability to repair itself during and after contact with the virus.
Did you know the body spiking a fever is a natural immune response to help the body get rid of the bug? A cool sponge bath and cold compresses can natural lower your temperature in the event of a fever.
Strengthen Your Immunity with Mind, Body & Soul Fuel
Because of the body's natural defenses, we can encounter many viruses, bacteria and parasites daily without severe complications. However, when we fail to properly take care of our systems, these natural defenses weaken over time. Certain lifestyle choices can contribute to weakening of the immune system, including: alcohol use, sedentariness, overconsumption of processed meats and other food items, and chronic stress. In addition, the following chronic medical conditions can increase risk of complications: heart disease, cancer, hypertension, HIV/AIDs, diabetes and respiratory illnesses (like COPD, asthma).
So logically, wouldn’t it be great to invest in your holistic health and protect yourself? Of course, and here is how I will help. I have put together, in good faith, a guide to help you better navigate during this time and potentially help you to make long lasting changes going forward.

Highlights from "A Vigor Guide to Help Us Navigate Through the Covid-19 Pandemic"
In Rooted Vigor Health’s guide, we discuss how to reduce vulnerability to illness and instruct on ways to maintain tranquility by focusing on the proper fueling of the mind, body and soul.
Body Fuel. When caring for the physical body, it is important to be mindful of the processes that naturally take place. For instance, in the event of an invader (like the influenza virus) the body will literally fight and create havoc in order to get it out. The body increases in temperature and it signals mucus production, coughing, sneezing, a sore throat, eye irritation, headaches, lack of appetite, muscles aches, vomiting, diarrhea, and nausea. When we start to feel these effects, we often head to our nearest pharmacy store to pick up medications that suppress these symptoms, like: antitussives (for cough), expectorants (to break up mucus), antipyretics (to reduce fever), and pain relievers. Constant use of these medications can potentially delay natural healing, which takes on average 7-10 days to complete. Most over the counter medications mask symptoms until the body has enough time to effectively reduce the viral load and illness. In our guide, we focus on enhancing the immune process (not masking it) with a naturopathic approach.
In this guide you will find, list of:
Body Fueling Food, Supplements and Activities That Enhance Immunity
Immunity Depriving Foods and Activities to Avoid
Activities and Lifestyle Changes That Enhance Sleep Quality
Mind Fuel. There is much evidence that support the idea that emotional distress can possibly increase the risks of dysfunction and hypo function of the immune system. We briefly discus the connection between cortisol, stress and immunity to help you understand the mind and emotion’s role in building resilency.
In this guide, also learn about:
Specific Activities That Can Weaken the Mind and Negatively Affect Immunity
Mind-Body Activities That Can Heal the Integrity of The Mind and Help Enhance Immunity
Soul Fuel. When we think of wellness, too often we omit the power of spiritually and belief in the higher being as a driving force in our healing. In a way, soul fuel can strengthen practically every system of our body, especially the immune system. Better attention to our spirituality can reduce stress and worry (and cortisol release) and increase happiness (and dopamine release), which work together to reduce inflammatory kinetics and improve immune defenses. This guide highlights activities that targets mindfulness of the soul to ensure homeostasis and protect immunity.
The food and lifestyle choices that you engage in can affect your vulnerability to complications from viruses, bacteria and other bugs 🐛🐞; they can help to either feed the bug or fight it. Therefore, make sure to do your part to nourish your body by consuming a variety of phyto-nutrients and antioxidants found in fruit, veggies, seeds, nuts and other whole foods. Also, while it is vital to focus on the physical fuel, it is just as important to focus on the vigor of the mind and soul as well. You'd be surprised at how effective your system is in keeping you free of the various ailments when the mind, body and soul are balanced and in working order.
